2014 - 15
The simple backstitch (going forward by two stitches underneath and going back one on top) is being used by Jo Roberts to create a comfort blanket.
Using this stitching manoeuvre as a strategy Jo re-visited Digbeth, where she used to have a studio, to explore the public and private, the underneath and the top. Using A3 as a base Jo will explored the geographical areas of Digbeth and Bordesley over the Summer of 2014 and her immediate physical and human interactions were translated into the making a series of maps.
Following her initial explorations of Digbeth and Bordesley Jo is currently working on a series of personal maps that has been stitched to create a 'comfort blanket'. We will be exhibiting the finished work and associated drawing at A3 in Autumn 2015.
Jo Roberts is a visual artist who combines drawing, words and stitch to create maps - and more.
