Going Down to Barry’s

Clare Thornton
Friday 6 June 2014, 6pm - 8pm
Saturday 7 June, 1pm - 5pm

Clare Thornton has been buying fabric from Barry's in Digbeth for years and during a micro residency in June she embarks on a new project for A3 that responds specifically to this eponymous shop.

You can meet the artist and see the outcomes of this initial research on First Friday 6th June 6-8 PM.

Barry's has provided Clare with the materials for her sculptures for many years. It now becomes a focus of attention in itself. Responding to the site, context and materials of A3 and Barry's Clare will be working between the two spaces.

Researching decoration, drapery and pattern against an industrial backdrop of workshops, factory units and functional interiors, Clare will be commencing her research at A3 inviting a range of makers, historians and curators to respond to her enquiry as she tests out sculptural/installation elements in the project space.
